The German Alpine Road (Deutsche Alpenstraße) is the oldest holiday route in Germany. It has been popular with guests from all over the world for almost a century. This route offers a perfect opportunity to discover Bavaria's best-known places and most important sights. No wonder that travelers have named the Deutsche Alpenstraße one of the most popular sights in Germany for decades.

Visit two alpine lakes at once and discover wild nature on the forest road through the Isar Valley.
This full-day excursion is mainly focused around toll roads Walchensee - Jachenau and Vorderriß - Wallgau with a stopover at the Sylvenstein reservoir. You can use the same day ticket for both toll roads. The route offers numerous places to stop for refreshments: the Gasthof "Zur Post" Wallgau, Landgasthof 'Zum Papyrer' Fleck, Gasthof Jachenau or the small cosy Waldschänke Niedernach. If you start early, you can also visit Hinterriß and Engalm in the Karwendel Nature Park or continue from Sylvenstein to Austria to Lake Achensee.
This picturesque curvy mountain road between Kochel and Walchensee is well-known to many motorcyclists in Europe.
This scenic route takes you through the most picturesque alpine towns in Bavaria and Tyrol.
The route goes through the Bavarian villages of Ettal and Graswang and further to the amazing Lake Plansee in Tyrol. If you have time, you can plan a stopover at Linderhof Castle. Shortly after the Austrian border, the cosy Almwirtschaft Ammerwald-Alm cafe invites you to stop for refreshments, and shortly before the town of Reutte you would reach the famous Ehrenberg Castle with its fortress ensemble, museum and one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. From Reutte the route continues via Heiterwang, Bichlbach and Lehrmoos to Ehrwald. From there, the German border and Grainau are not far away.
Alpine road enthusiasts can take the alternative route from Reutte via Stanzach, Namlos and Kelmen to Bichlbach. Here in the small alpine villages you will discover nice pubs with a terrace to enjoy the glorious view over a cool drink.
You can try out our scenic routes in the winter or in rainy weather as well. And who knows, maybe the weather in the neighbouring towns is somewhat better.
